Typical small business browser stats?
My friend Jeff was nice enough to share with me his dumpster rental website’s browser stats from May 2008 – December 31 2008. There were more Firefox users than I had anticipated, and I’m hoping that number increases for next year. I suspect Safari will climb too with the always-increasing sales of Macbooks and iPhones. How do these comapre with small business your stats?
- Internet Explorer 74.04%
- Firefox 20.24%
- Safari 4.80%
- Chrome 0.32%
- Mozilla 0.27%
- Netscape 0.14%
- Opera 0.11%
- Mozilla Compatible Agent 0.03%
- Camino 0.02%
- Playstation 3 0.02%

Hey Marcel,
Not much is more interesting than browser usage stats. Honestly, I find a bit odd that I’m so fascinated with them.
Here are the stats from one of my company’s site’s. It’s not a small business per se, but we’re not huge by any means.

Browser stats are really only any good if you view them in the context of the product. You can’t, for instance, say that 74% of the entire user base of the internet uses MSIE, judging from those stats.
It’s not especially reliable for determining how to go about building a new site. But it definitely helps when deciding where to go from here, once you’ve been collecting stats for some time.
Peace,
Jason R.

Do you have a breakdown within IE that shows the percentage using IE7 vs. IE6?
